South Australia now leads the nation in its ability to deliver world class soil and land information to land managers across the State, according to the Minister for Environment and Conservation, John Hill.
Mr Hill says the new Soil and Land Information System, launched in February with the Centre for Natural Resource Management in SA, will help South Australians better understand our natural resources and provide sound solutions to resource management challenges.
“South Australia is the first Australian state to develop a ‘seamless’ mapping coverage of its agricultural land at a scale which is sufficiently detailed for planning at the district and catchment level,” Mr Hill said. “We now have a valuable skill and knowledge base not found anywhere else in Australia.

The Soil and Land Information System project and the Centre for Natural Resource Management hosting it represent the collective achievement of Spatial Australia, a collaborative industry group that provides world class multidisciplinary spatial information services. Spatial is the key industry partner in the Centre, with the State Government and the University of Adelaide.
