A Rush of Life
Wendy Rush
Wendy Rush has a background in export, business development and enterprising women. But her life took a surprising turn when her Christian faith led her to apply for the position of Chief Executive Officer of local Christian radio station, 107.9 Life FM.
What is most surprising about Wendy’s current position is the fact that Life FM, or Christian Radio Incorporated, is only her second employer.
After leaving school, Wendy attended a secretarial college eventually becoming a secretary and then personal assistant at the Chamber of Commerce SA. Working her way up the corporate ladder, Wendy was involved in industrial relations, enterprise development and human resources before establishing and managing the Enterprising Women sector of the Chamber. This was in conjunction with her position as Senior Training Co—ordinator.
“Enterprising Women was formed in response to an approach by members who were asking if there was a group specifically for women," says Wendy. “There was a need and the Chamber fulfilled that need.”
For four years, Wendy occupied dual positions at the Chamber, one of which was Executive Officer of Enterprising Women. In August 1998, her skills were recognised as being highly suitable for membership recruitment and marketing and in 2000 she became the Manager of International Business at the re—named Business SA. The same year she was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree – Communications with a media studies major.
Wendy is, so far, the only female in the history of the Chamber to be promoted from a secretarial to a management position.
“I have never shied away from change," relates Wendy, “and I saw a lot of changes when I was with the Chamber of Commerce, now Business SA. I have a tendency to focus on the positive and try to do the best I can when an opportunity is presented.”
