IT Profession Appeals to Country Kids
The EDS Rotary IT Careers Forum experienced a dramatic jump in applications from country kids in 2003 when compared with previous years, reports organisers.
With an influx of applications to attend the EDS Rotary IT Careers Forum, regional students topped in at more than 40% of overall applications to attend compared to the previous 28% last year.
Students from as far afield as Renmark, Peterborough and Port Lincoln travelled to Adelaide for the IT Careers Forum, which ran in the July school holidays.
The EDS Rotary IT Careers Forum is a major community initiative by EDS Australia, the largest employer of IT professionals in South Australia. Since 1998, the forum has introduced hundreds of students to educational pathways and work in the IT industry and associated fields.
Forum spokesman and Senior Leader Christian Winterfield, a country student from Freeling in the Mid North, said that word of mouth was promoting the value of the forum among country kids. â...
