ezyDVD vs Online Trend
Australia’s only DVD specialist retailer EzyDVD may have started the ‘wrong’ way around, but its growth, value and profit margins are showing all the right stuff.
Beginning in March 1999 as an online DVD retailer, EzyDVD has bucked the retailing trend and done very well indeed.
“Most businesses start out as bricks and mortar and then make the move to online, but we’ve done it the other way around—and it’s worked really well for us,’’ says managing director, Jim Zavos.
EzyDVD’s first retail store opened in Adelaide’s Regent Arcade in April 2001. There are now 11 EzyDVD stores nationally, with another 10 about to open. Jim has set the goal of 100 stores in 12 to 18 months.
“It’s ambitious but we believe it’s a reachable target,’’ he says. “We’ve had loads of interest in franchising – literally hundreds of enquiries.”
Mr Zavos owns a handful of the current 11 stores but most are franchised.
