Blueprint for freight export bonanza
The SA Freight Council (SAFC) has published a comprehensive guide to assist businesses involved in SA’s $800 million a year perishable goods export industry. SAFC hopes the document will become the “national blueprint”.“Over the past 2 years nearly $2 billion in homegrown produce/goods have left our shores destined for overseas markets," says SAFC working group convenor, Dean Buder.
“There is an increasing demand for SA—grown products in global markets and we as a State, and as an industry, need to continuously improve the quality and reputation of our export chain.”
The guide offers advice, guidelines and checklists in areas including Harvest Packing and Dispatch; Refrigerated Road Transport; Air Freight of Perishables; Refrigerated Shipping; Fresh Produce Physical Flow and Documentation Flow for both Air and Sea Freight; and Cooling and Storage Facilities (including types of coolrooms such as Hydrocooling, Vacuum and Forced Air Cooling). SAFC also released a similar guide for goods being transported to and from remote regions of the State.
