9pc Leap as SA Catches Up on Venture Capital

CapitalWatch, a monitoring publication of SA—based Playford Capital, is a summary of private equity investments made in South Australia

South Australian companies received venture capital investment of $37 million during 2002—03. Latest figures released by the Australian Venture Capital Journal/ PricewaterhouseCoopers Venture Capital Survey show that investment into SA’s growth stage companies represented 10% of the $378 million invested nationally into the sector.

This is up from just 1% two years ago and shows a strong improvement in the amount of venture capital being attracted into the state. Playford Capital chief executive Geoff Thomas said Playford was fulfilling its role as a venture capital money magnet, with the $1.65 million invested by the organisation in the year directly leading to a further $7.3 million of investment by venture capital firms and private investors.
