Growing it Alone
Fast movers spurn IPO and back their people
The Growth Solutions Team of national accounting house Deloitte has released interesting research in its Growth Trends Brief 2003. Analysing survey and polling results gleaned from hundreds of public, private and family—owned businesses, the Growth Solutions Team has put 11 critical questions to some people on the move.
Deloitte surveyed some 400 of Australia’s fastest—growing businesses, with turnover from $2million to about $100million, in the so—called ‘emerging market’.
The Howard Government’s 2003 Budget predicted growth at about 3%, but the emerging economy expects to do better. Deloitte found that most (about 60%) of the firms surveyed expected 6—20% growth. Significantly, more than 90% of respondents had a formal plan for growth.
“Full or initial public offerings (IPOs) have not been the popular choices for Australia’s emerging market,” the Growth Trends Brief says. Less than 10% of the firms were planning offerings.
