AIMing High
The Australian Institute of Management conducted a survey of more than 500 of its member businesses in South Australia. A sampling of business sentiment, the survey collected information relating to the table. Also collected were the answers to two key questions: What can be done to improve business in South Australia? and Which costs are likely to have the greatest impact on your business operations in 2004?
A surprising result was the strong reaction against the Rann Government’s move to dramatically downsize the Centre for Industry, Business and Manufacturing (CIBM). Not only did respondents object to its closure, one suggested the business community recreate it as a private sector venture.
It was often stated that small business needs more support, a lighter compliance burden and better links to government and their markets. Bigger business should not need incentives and should be more willing to mentor smaller business in the interest of growing the local economy....
