Shining the light on disabled artists:
Adelaide recently hosted the High Beam Festival, a reflection of the growth and changes in the arts and disability arena. The theme of this years festival was ‘Evolve’ as Artistic Director, Susan Maley, says the aim of the festival was to further the evolution of disabled arts through a rich mix of performance, presentations, discussions and visual arts.
EVOLVE High Beam was a partnership through peak industry body Arts In Action, Flinders University Disability Studies Program and Community Arts Network SA. The festival relies heavily on sponsorship and funding as many events were free to the public and the festival was host to some 30 multiple presentation acts at nearly 20 venues.
Planning has started for the next festival so if philanthropy of the arts interests you, please check out www.highbeamfestival.org, e-mail highbeamfestival@artsinaction.asn.au or phone (08) 8232 6391.
