Renewed confidence in SA business outlook

Confidence levels among SA businesses have rebounded off the back of an improved international outlook for the State’s exporters, a major survey shows. The latest BankSA State Monitor survey found confidence levels among South Australian businesses have significantly risen in recent months. BankSA MD, Rob Chapman, said the high level of optimism within the business sector was being fuelled by stable interest rates, strong domestic and national economic conditions and an improved global trading outlook.

"The recent fall in the Australian dollar has been welcomed by our State’s exporters while the Free Trade Agreement with the United States is being seen as further evidence of the promising outlook for international trade," Rob said. "Businesses have also been buoyed by the continuing strong domestic economic conditions as shown by the healthy retail, car and home sales data. "From the State Monitor results, it appears that the concern over the closure of the Mitsubishi Lonsdale plant, which was apparent during the previous survey, has dissipated to a degree." The survey found resources, construction and business services firms are among the most confident while tighter consumer spending is affecting confidence among retailers.

ACTA generates $40m business

The Adelaide Convention and Tourism Authority has maintained a solid performance in the increasingly competitive convention industry, winning 36 events for SA in 2003/04. The events, which include the Psychology and Law International Interdisciplinary Conference 2007 (1500 delegates), the National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Observance Celebrations 2005 (1400 delegates), and the Ninth International Farm Youth Exchange World Conference 2008 (500 delegates) are expected to inject nearly $40 million into the State’s economy.
