Adelaide’s Mad Academy Rides a Wave of 3d Success
With Shrek, Toy Story and special effects—based movies drawing huge crowds and billions of dollars around the world, Adelaide’s own MAD Academy is riding a wave of success.
Australia’s first accredited trainer in the world’s most popular 3D animation software, The MAD (Multimedia, Animation and Design) Academy has opened a new Sydney school, building on its success at its Hindley Street headquarters, in the heart of Adelaide’s arts and entertainment district.
The Academy has been turning out graduates with world standard qualifications for the past three years and is under constant demand to supply more to the talent—hungry animation industry. The training enables graduates to work in high—demand areas such as film, TV, special effects, web design and gaming, as well as industrial and medical visualisation, construction, interior design, engineering and architecture.
The MAD Academy is the first school in the Asia Pacific accredited by the US—based software company Discreet to provide professional training in 3D Studio Max, the systems used to create around 98 percent of the world’s computer games. Familiar game titles brought to the screen by 3D Studio Max include Tomb Raider, GEX, XWing, Starcraft and Diablo 11. Discreet software has also been used to create groundbreaking special effects in movies like The Mummy Returns, The Matrix, Star Wars Episode 1 and Titanic.
