Australia’s premier food festival, Tasting Australia will open its cornucopia in South Australia this October (5 to 14) for two weeks of culinary decadence.
Well-established after several years of successful staging, the festival expects to draw upwards of 30,000 local and interstate visitors keen to see hundreds of exhibitions across many venues — a printed program is widely available and the web address is www.tasting-australia.com.au
“Tasting Australia has had an enormous impact in bolstering South Australia’s image as the food and wine state of Australia,” says Belinda Dewhirst, General Manager of Australian Major Events, who is managing this State Government initiative.
“The first event in 1997 generated a massive $35 million in global media coverage and in 1999 this more than doubled to $73 million — meaning a total of more than $100 million in coverage for our food and wine sectors.
“Regional touring is a major (and highly popular) component of the event and many international articles feature regional South Australian food and wine as a result of this initiative.
“The event also fosters increased linkages between trade buyers and local producers, and greatly raises awareness and promotion of local produce. Although this is hard to measure, we believe South Australian exports have benefited from these improved relationships.”
