Get the best people and train them well

The issue of finding, attracting and holding onto high quality personnel seems to be a problem which strikes us all at some time. Unfortunately some businesses are hit harder and more often than others. So what exactly is the secret of those who have the most success?
In our experience it’s no big secret that the employer of choice generally knows what is important to their prospective and current employees and they work hard to meet those needs. If you don’t look after your employees you might as well give up trying to attract customers as well.
Before you really begin the challenge of attracting and retaining people you need to stop and consider the darker side of working with people – what drives them from their jobs. Profiles International recently completed a survey to explore why people leave their jobs. Some employers have found the results very interesting so see what you think of the top five reasons why people change jobs and try and rank them in order:
- Boredom
- Low wages and benefits
- Limited chances for promotion
- Lack of recognition
- Poor view of management.
So which one did you put on top? The Profiles study showed quite clearly, that the most important reason was that of management and how they treated people, but how do we fix it?
