Giant homemaker centre to open in Mile End
A $50 million one-stop homemaker centre opening in December is set to become a major shopping destination in metropolitan Adelaide. The Mile End Homemaker Centre is attracting interstate investment and is creating around 500 jobs. Stage one of the Centre, a joint development project by Daycorp, Wingate Properties and Wolf Blass Group of Companies, opens for trade on 2 December 2004. Space in the 14,000m2 opening stage has been secured by anchor tenant The Good Guys as well as Eastern seaboard retailers Dare Gallery, 40 Winks and The Outdoor Furniture Specialists, all opening their first South Australian stores. When completed in 2005/2006, the Mile End Homemaker Centre will offer a wide range of retail goods including lighting, electrical and white goods, bedding, manchester and leisure products. When completed, the Mile End Homemaker Centre will offer around 30,000 sq m of retail space on a 7.5ha site located 2.5km west of the CBD, central to an estimated 475,000 people living within 15 minutes drive. There will be cafes and eateries and 900 parking spaces.
Electronics industry zaps state revenue
Electronics Industry Association, Executive Director, Jason Kuchel has welcomed forecasts in South Australia’s ICT Industry Report commissioned by the State Government in collaboration with the Electronics Industry Association, the IT Council and Playford Capital. The report and industry survey covers electronics, information technology and communications. Survey results showed electronics industry export revenue will increase by 40% to $1 billion in the 2004/05 year. Adelaide is the least costly Australian city to set up a business and the cost of electronics systems development and testing in Adelaide is more that 30% lower than the US average - lower than all of 38 non-US cities in the KPMG 2004 Competitive Alternatives Report.
