Australian enterprise must become smarter in its use of new information business systems to maintain a competitive edge in a technology driven marketplace.
Business software specialist Deborah Miller said too many companies that purchased the latest industry software were not maximising the return on their investment.
Ms Miller, a joint director of Adelaide-based Acuere, said there was a tendency for business leaders to adopt a minimalist approach to the necessary associated services when introducing new technology systems.
"Even when they buy the latest software they invariably fail to integrate it effectively into their business, using only a fraction of its potential," Ms Miller said.
"It's like buying a top-of-the-range high performance car and staying in first gear. You might as well stick with the old model.”
