Underconfidence is SA’s biggest shortcoming
Steady population growth and a reduction in land tax and stamp duty are the key items on the 2005 wishlist for commercial property pundit, Don Crouch.
Don, the Managing Director of Knight Frank in South Australia, says while the Adelaide commercial property market performed consistently during 2004, it was held back by a lack of new tenants.
“Part of this is because the State’s slow population growth does not encourage new businesses to move to South Australia,” he says.
“Western Australia’s population is now around two million and the Eastern States capital cities are experiencing strong growth, especially Queensland.”
“Adelaide’s population by comparison is only just breaking even, a problem we have had for a number of years.”
Don says the reasons behind the problem and the solutions were difficult to pinpoint.
