Philmac, United go to water overseas
Thousands of new mains-to-meter connections in Adelaide will be re-engineered using specially designed Philmac plastic compression fittings as part of a collaborative project between United Water, the largest private sector water company operating in Australia and New Zealand, and leading Australian pipe fittings manufacturer, Philmac.
“United Water is responsible for more than 400,000 service connections and almost 10,000 kilometres of mains water pipes in Adelaide alone, which means reliability and efficiency are top priorities,” United Water’s Economic Development Manager, Tony Smith, says.
“Rather than scouring the market for a suitable replacement product, our asset managers approached Philmac about developing a series of practical and efficient pipeline installation and repair solutions with a focus on enhanced flexibility.”
Philmac Group Marketing Manager, Jason Mitchell, says this opportunity came “off the back” of a past project in which United Water commissioned Philmac to develop the highly successful Universal Transition Coupling (UTC), which Philmac now distributes globally as a copper repair joint.
He said Philmac simply expanded its range of UTC and metric fittings to meet the requirements of the project.
