Champions of Italian Trade
Italy is Australia's third largest export market in the European Union (EU) and is ranked 14th overall as a trading partner for Australia.
It is Australia's third largest source of imports from the EU and tenth worldwide.
From our part of the world, the body driving that trade is the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Australia Inc. - Adelaide, which was founded in 1970 to create business opportunities between Australia and Italy.
The Adelaide Chamber is part of a network of five local Australian chambers and 74 allied chambers worldwide.
The Chamber comprises a voluntary Board and a full time Secretariat.
Its membership includes many nationalities and industry sectors with members ranging from small and medium-sized entities to multinationals and financial institutions.
The Chamber continues to evolve so as to provide proper and timely advice to its members.
In an Australian first, reflecting the growing engagement of the commercial sector with the arts, the Chamber has joined with the renowned Paralello performing arts company to promote the spirit of community, commerce and culture.
The Chamber plays an important intermediary role, facilitating bilateral trade and supporting an international and profitable business network. Some $80 million worth of export turnover took place under Chamber auspices during 2004 alone.
The Chamber provides commercial services, promotes the development of international activities and helps members lobby appropriate bodies, to establish the infrastructure necessary for well-organised trade and investment.
