Keep It Moving
In the early 1990s Carman Rossi of logistics software developer Trident, who had worked in the IT industry for the likes of Wang and Oracle, realised he had found his niche.
He would use his years of experience to sell specialised software packages, ideally focussed on the export processes he knew best.
“I spent 14 years, after partially completing an electronic engineering course, in the consumer electronics industry,” Carman says. “I had more of an interest on the marketing side — and in the last few years, in management.
“A good part of that time was spent doing business in Australia but I also spent a number of years in exporting-importing and setting up distribution networks for the companies that I worked for.
“I travelled overseas — the US, Europe, Asia in Japan and China. I had a fair bit of experience in understanding how international trade was conducted, not only within Australia but also recognising the needs of importers overseas.”
Most of his sales effort was devoted to enterprise resource planning systems that optimise how a company allocates its capital, material and manpower. “The fact that I was selling ERP systems gave me an even more in-depth insight as to how software would help organisations help better organise their business,” he says.
Carman and wife Jannette took the entrepreneurial plunge in December 1992, choosing the Trident name and logo.
