Linking up with India
Australia India Business Council (AIBC) SA Chairman, Brian Hayes QC has announced plans for a SA Trade Awareness Delegation to India later this year.
The second fastest growing major economy in the world, India showed a GDP growth rate of 8.1% at the end of the first quarter of 2005–2006. It has a population of over 1 billion, with more millionaires than the whole population of Australia and a massive growing consumer middle class. English is one of the main official languages, infrastructure is getting better and Western style financial, legal, education and political institutions provide a platform for sustained growth.
In 2005 AIBC SA Chapter was launched in Adelaide to be South Australia’s peak body for building strategic business links between Australia and India. In the six months since its inauguration AIBC SA has already attracted huge interest both locally and in India and has a fast-growing membership.
At a coming AIBC SA luncheon, Former Australian Test cricketer and now SA’s Special Envoy to India, Darren Lehmann will discuss how in this new role he has been able to promote local businesses looking to export to India, encourage investment by Indian companies into South Australia and promote South Australia and India as mutual tourist destinations.
