Fresh opportunity to fund projects
A great opportunity to win support for vital infrastructure projects is here, as the Commonwealth Government has integrated its key regional development funding programs into a streamlined Regional Partnerships program.
A total of $360.9 million is available under Regional Partnerships from 2005-06 to 2008-09, funded by the Department of Transport and Regional Services.
The funding is for projects that build community capacity, facilitate social development and lead to economic and employment outcomes.
But since Regional Partnerships is a discretionary funding program, simply meeting the assessment criteria does not guarantee support.
Proponents' first call should be to the Adelaide Metropolitan Area Consultative Committee, which can help identify possible partners and other funding sources, ensure the proposal meets the guidelines and addresses key ministerial priorities.
Working through AMACC will maximise the potential for success of the application and the project.
Ministerial priorities for 2006-07 are:
- Small or disadvantaged communities
- Youth
- Economic growth and skill development; and
- Indigenous communities.
Under this program, Federal Member for Wakefield, David Fawcett, recently announced Regional Partnerships funding of $330,000 for the Gawler Sport and Community Centre. When added to contributions from other funding partners the project will total almost $1 million.
“I would particularly like to thank the Adelaide Metropolitan Area Consultative Committee for helping to bring this project to fruition,” Mr Fawcett said.
Regional Partnerships funding is being used to address a lack of youth services and facilities and the Gawler project will include homework space, internet access, a youth health nurse, structured leisure opportunities, and a large open floor space and stage that can accommodate alcohol–free events.
