Research conducted by ACNielsen shows that more than 17,000 Australian businesses use eBay as their primary business or only sales channel.
And over 35,000 Australians use eBay as a secondary source of income or channel for their business. Rapid growth is likely to continue as more businesses move online looking for cost effective ways to find more customers.
In addition to reaching a larger customer base through eBay’s 193 million members worldwide, business owners with eBay stores also cite low overheads to starting and running a business as key drivers for moving online.
Joanne Emery of Mallala was motivated by a friend’s accomplishments on eBay and thought she could also earn extra cash by selling unwanted household goods. After great success, she took $50 and went shopping for items she could sell on eBay.
