SA workers call for flexible hours

One in five South Australian employees have applied for a job elsewhere in the last six months and more than half are thinking about it.

A more than 100% increase in staff turnover, difficulty in attracting staff, and a “huge drop” in ability to get acceptable performance and productivity from employees are among key findings in the latest National Leadership, Employment and Direction Survey.

Another shock finding from the LEAD Survey is that a fifth of Australia's workforce says they have been the victims of bullying in their workplace; and one in 20 say they are currently being bullied.

The Survey was commissioned by Leadership Management Australia and conducted by Quantum Market Research. Quantum researched more than 4,100 business leaders, senior managers and employees making it the most comprehensive and unique survey of its type in Australian business.

The survey found that flexibility in the workplace is a bigger issue for South Australians than the average Australian worker. Flexible leave arrangements (29% in SA to 22% nationally) are among top three things that would encourage us to stay at our current workplace. When asked what three key things would attract us to a new employer, 52% of us nominated flexible work hours compared to only 47% nationally.

Salary increases tend to be less important to South Australian workers (54% SA, 60% nationally).
