Postcards going places
Channel 9’s Postcards program is leading the way in television technology, becoming the first local production to use a high definition process from production to broadcast — an immense leap beyond standard definition video.
In doing so, Postcards has ensured an important industry sector prospers in Adelaide by providing employment and training in the television industry.
Postcards has flourished against the trend of an industry that supports little local production and relies on nationally syndicated programs.
"Postcards is now into its eleventh year — quite an achievement for a program that began as an eight-episode experiment," Producer, Ron Kandelaars says.
"Over the years it has carved out a devoted following, often scoring a top-10 spot in terms of local audiences.
"As one of the flagship programs for Nine locally it has attracted a lot of interest from young cameramen and audio operators wanting to break into TV and the Postcards crew has been more than willing to take these young trainees under its wing.
"Further, it has ensured that South Australia does not lose our budding young talent to the Eastern seaboard, as it provides the opportunity for our young industry professionals to work with the latest in high definition technology.”
