IT community is growing global
South Australia’s ICT companies are brimming with enthusiasm to grow their businesses and enter overseas markets, according to Raymond Garrand, Chief Executive of the Department of Trade and Economic Development.
“Courses run by the department are being so well supported by local ICT companies that one can’t help but be impressed by their go-ahead attitude,” says Ray, who believes SA’s information communications and technology industry holds great potential for development on the world stage.
“These companies represent the full ICT spectrum of software, telecommunications, electronics and interactive digital content.
“We are currently running our Growing Global Companies course for the tenth time, with more than 80 companies having attended since the start of 2006.
“Companies such as Morton Blacketer, Digislide and Infotech, to name a few, are prepared to take three days out to attend this course and learn about issues such as company management, exporting and innovation.”
Morton Blacketer’s Marketing and Business Development Manager, Lyndal Sterenberg, says the course gave her company a framework for improved management and growth.
“Without participating in the course, we would not have been able to review and analyze our business to identify the areas for improvement that we are now targeting,” Lyndal says.
The State’s ICT sector is worth $4.5 billion annually, with half of this total coming from interstate and overseas exports. Revenue is expected to increase to $5 billion this year, with exports growing proportionately.
Ray says that innovative, growth and export-oriented companies are prepared to take “every possible step” to advance their potential by attending these courses. ICT exports can be expected to grow significantly over the next few years.
