Pen & paper gets a digital makeover
Electronics firm IntelEsytems is best known for its large footprint in the EFTPOS service provision sector, but the Glenelg-based innovator has added an interesting string to its bow.
IntelESystems Digital Pen & Paper is essentially a Bluetooth mobile phone connected to a scribe and operating over a special pad of paper. Using a matrix of dots on the special paper to track the stylus, the system learns to recognise handwriting and record it as text within prescribed fields. Just about any corporate form can be made to fit.
That's impressive, but PDAs have been able to do that for a while. What's strikingly useful about IntelEsystems' product is the archiving capability that goes with it.
After capturing the handwritten information on site, the firm's Fast Docs system transmits it to a central storage using its mobile phone element.
