Dressing for the job you want
Julie Zanes is the principal of Instyle Image, a leading national image consultancy business, prominent keynote speaker and facilitator, servicing the corporate sector and individuals on professional image, etiquette and presentation.
She founded Instyle Image in 2001 after spending eight years at home raising her children.
But before she married and had her children, her career started as a life insurance salesperson when she was 22 years old.
As a young female in a very male dominated industry, she was told to “expect it tough”. She ignored this and within three months of joining became the number one agent, winning many awards.
She believes her success had absolutely nothing to do with knowing her product, as she was still in the early stages of gaining training and experience.
It had everything to do with looking successful, so people had trust in her capabilities.
Julie’s secret: ”Don’t dress for the job you’re in, dress for the job you want.”
When the time came to recommence her career, she knew that she did not want to return to Insurance sales. She wanted to run her own business.
Self-employment was important as she could also have the flexibility to maintain her involvement with her children.
She decided that her belief in “Dress for Success” was her passion, so it became the path she would take.
