Yorke Peninsula tour de force
Business advisors from Development Boards and Enterprise Centres across the State recently took part in a 'progressive' workshop, hosted by the Yorke Regional Development Board.
The bus tour, beginning at Virginia, took in areas within the District Councils of Wakefield Plains and Yorke Peninsula, and provided a snapshot of a number of exciting new developments within the region. On board providing commentary, local Economic Development Officers and Business Advisors, David Cowell, Simon Millcock and Peter Stockings.
"One of these tours is organized every year, each region taking its turn to host the event," David explained. "From this most recent two-day exercise as well as a sharing of ideas, the aim was to experience a better understanding of issues such as attracting skilled workers to our area, major development processes, and joint marketing initiatives in rural areas."
For both rural and metropolitan advisors it is all about encouraging sustainable business opportunities, and providing job opportunities for our young people. These are people passionate about economic development, and involved in a whole range of diverse projects, and last month it was our turn to be put under the microscope as they took a close look at what was happening here. We have a good leadership through our Board and Staff with MBA's, Degrees and APEC Certification which is well suited to the positions they hold.
Off the Wakefield Highway
What we soon discovered was, that venture off the Wakefield Highway and there's a whole new world out there!
At the Virginia Horticulture Centre, set up to assist production and management of a variety of crops, the group received a 'snapshot' of what is produced in an area that has a gross food revenue of $683m, and the promotion of SA Grown Brand.
Presenters also talked about the continuing effects of the November 2005 flood, and while it only appeared on our television...
