1 million Australian, and marketers, embrace Anti Spam and Do Not Call laws

Tighter guidelines around the use of telephone numbers and restrictions on illegal email marketing have been welcomed by the local marketing industry. “A million people have signed up to the Do Not Call Register,” says Adelaide marketing guru Jason Neave, Managing Partner of Adelaide digital marketing agency Joss Media.
Jason, who teaches direct and digital marketing for peak industry body the Australian Direct Marketing Association (ADMA), adds that while there are still a few issues that need to be resolved with the regulators, but “anything that helps consumers dictate how and when they receive messages can only help marketers make their messages relevant and more welcome.”
It’s a fact not lost on ADMA’s 500-plus corporate members around the country, but, according to Darlene Richard, ADMA’s Director of Education, “Marketers need to know how to effectively comply with the laws, so they can be confident in executing any critical marketing campaign for their business. With the digital age changing the face of DM - if not its principles - the industry looks to us for guidance and education to keep their efforts best-practice.”
