Warrawong on song
Tourism entrepreneurs Anthony and Judy Miller have worked a second miraculous rescue on a South Australian icon, with Warrawong Sanctuary now trading in the black after the noted protected zone for indigenous fauna was on the brink of permanent closure last year.
The Millers, who gave the Toy Factory at Gumeracha a new lease of life in 2004, instituted seven-day trading immediately upon taking over and put paid to rumours the Mylor site would be subdivided and sold off.
Historically, tours at the facility have made money but the Sanctuary’s restaurant had made a serious loss. Anthony says correcting that flaw was a priority. A year on, he has done it.
“Conservation is very important, but without a commercial aspect to the operation, there is no hope of survival,” Anthony says.
