Community projects get green light
by Lee Hopkins
Adelaide Metropolitan Area Consultative Committee Inc (AMACC) is a member of the national network of 54 Area Consultative Committees (ACCs) funded by the Federal Government to facilitate change and development in the region, to link Government, business and the community and to facilitate whole-of-government responses to opportunities in our communities.
Our key role is to facilitate access to Federal Government funding, including the Regional Partnership Programme, and help develop project proposals that address economic, social, community and environmental issues. Lately we have had some wonderful success at funding organisations including local government on key projects. Here are some of our success stories.
ELIZABETH AQUADOME REDEVELOPMENT
The Australian Government will provide $2 million to partner with the City of Playford and YMCA to redevelop the Elizabeth Aquadome.
“I see this as an investment in the wellbeing of our people and the future of our community,” said Federal Member for Wakefield, Mr David Fawcett.
The project includes the upgrade of the existing 50m pool to provide disabled access, a new leisure and toddlers’ pool, expanded gym facilities, creche facilities, new change rooms and an outdoor recreation area.
Mr Fawcett said the upgrade would increase the participation of young people, including indigenous youth, through additional programs to build youth leadership.
There will also be improved car parking, and safer access for all users. The installation of infrastructure to enable water recycling and solar heating will deliver environmental sustainability and resource conservation outcomes. The YMCA will manage the Centre and target specific community sectors including youth, Indigenous, and aged community members to encourage greater patronage.
RP Funding $2,000,000 Total Project Value $11,900,000
