Flinders Ports imports CEO
In charge of SA’s principal seaports since 14 January Vincent Tremaine, the new CEO of Flinders Ports, is a very experienced operator in this field.
Flinders Ports took up leases on ports let by the SA Government on 2 November last year. The $186 million deal saw the privatised ports pass under the corporate umbrella of Toll Ports and Resources, which also controls port and energy assets in Victoria and Tasmania.
Flinders Ports comprises Adsteam Marine Ltd and Egis Projects Asia Pacific, the Motor Trades Association of Australia Superannuation Fund Pty Limited, Galaxy S.àr.l and equipsuper.
Flinders Ports was the successful bidder for a 99—year leasehold and ownership interest in the South Australian ports of Port Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Wallaroo, Port Pirie, Port Giles, Thevenard and Klein Point.
The contract includes $60 million to be spent by the new owner building a new grain berth at Outer Harbour, dredging Outer Harbour to allow access of Panamax—size vessels, and upgrading the wharves at Port Giles and Wallaroo.
In his previous position as Toll’s regional general manager for SA, Victoria and Tasmania, Vincent was responsible for the ports of Geelong and Hastings (now Toll WesternPort) and the Toll Energy Victoria business. He consulted to the consortium—including TNT, General Electric and Lend Lease—which won the management rights for the Port of Geelong in 1996.
Each year, 12 million tonnes of bulk and break bulk cargo from 500 ships pass over Geelong’s docks and Vincent is familiar with the process. Previously, he was executive manager — marketing and corporate services for the Port of Geelong. Before that he held senior management positions within the Arnotts Snack Foods group.
