Second ferry in service
A new $16 million, custom-built drive-on, drive-off ferry specially configured for Spencer Gulf conditions cruised into Wallaroo in March to prepare to begin service with Sea SA.
Sea Spirit 1, a 64-metre world-class catamaran that can carry 93 vehicles of all sizes plus 300 seated passengers, will work alongside her smaller sister, Sea Scape 1, in the cross-Gulf service which links the Yorke and Eyre peninsulas.
Based on an internationally award-winning design by Australian naval architects, Sea Transport, Sea Spirit left the shipyards in Batam, Indonesia, on 2 March after passing sea trials.
Sea SA MD, Stephanie Dawson, is “delighted with the finished result”. The new ferry features a mezzanine car deck, air-conditioned café, hospitality lounges, disabled access including an onboard lift, two widescreen plasma TVs, a kids’ play zone, internet area and tourism booth.
