The labour force in the Middle East and North Africa is forecast to reach 185 million by 2010 and the astonishing growth is driving a need for new houses and massive infrastructure. As well as residential requirements, growth in hospitality, leisure and commerce add to the urgent need for capacity.
“Project values in the Gulf territories in 2007 were stated as $1.4 trillion,” says Neville Wills of Export Introduction Services, which specialises in forging links with the United Arab Emirates. Neville believes SA SMEs should satisfy some of the “mega demand”.
“Not only are there opportunities in the construction industries, but in associated industries around the construction such as horticulture, land scaping and greening projects,” he says.
