Teaching the joy of taking risks
Teachers are coalface workers in the battle to up-skill South Australia; how they go about their business will strongly influence how many workers our businesses have to choose from, and how well trained they are.
The experience our business teachers give students can influence how many grads are mentally prepared to seize good business opportunities as entrepreneurs.
The Business and Enterprise Teachers Association of SA is a professional association that aims to promote and extend business education in SA, and put more students in the right - entrepreneurial - frame of mind.
BETA was founded in 1965 by teachers of office
skills such as typing, bookkeeping and business
English. As those specialist subjects disappeared, membership declined and BETA has struggled to make non-specialist teachers of business-related subjects aware the organization exists and can be a source of valuable resources.
“The challenges for the immediate future for BETA include Future SACE and the inevitable changes in technology and how they impact and influence business and education,” says BETA President, Chris Athanasos.
“BETA will need to continue to be adaptable to meet the needs of teachers of business subjects according to the perceived needs of business. We need to connect with the business world more to provide interesting ideas for the future – and ensure teachers are kept informed of current issues and events.
