Banking on Melbourne
CEO Greg Connor says it has been a busy year at Savings & Loans, with couple of big projects coming to fruition - showing an interesting gift for understatement.
“In October we launched a new visual brand and logo, which included the introduction of a new website and Internet Banking system,” he says.
“We hadn’t updated our branding for quite some time and it didn’t reflect the sort of organisation we’d become.
“We also expanded our operations into metropolitan Melbourne for the first time, opening three new branches in the city’s eastern suburbs. Savings & Loans has been in regional Victoria since 2003 and we have big hopes for our future in Melbourne.”
S&L backed those big hopes in a merger with smaller Melbourne credit union, Austral, boosting membership numbers by about 15,000 in the region.
“New branches were also opened in the NT and SA, so all-up we opened seven new operations this year,” Greg says.
“We picked up our sixth consecutive Employer of Choice for Women Citation, which is something we’re very proud of. Our staff are the backbone of the organisation and we know the importance of providing a supportive and flexible workplace for them.
“On the numbers side of things, we passed $3bn in assets this year, which is growth of almost $500 million on 2007 and our deposit book grew by 16%. Given the turbulence in financial markets during the year, this is a particularly strong result. Greg says 2...
