Finer points of cash control for SMEs
Affable finance expert Garry O’Shea from the Commonwealth Bank offers his small business finance expertise to delegates at The Brew Small Business Expo. Garry will touch on topics such as avoiding financial ‘growing pains’ and seasonality, how to gauge net worth, how to evaluate cashflow and actual profit, and how to cope with cash flow cycles. He will touch on what to monitor, whether to fund operations on cash or borrowings, how to speed up the cash flow cycle and how to feed a business without starving it of cash.
“Don’t use an overdraft for minor expenses if you don’t have to use ‘hard-core debt’,” Garry says. “If you’re borrowing to fund an asset, don’t take out a 30-year loan on a piece of plant that’s only going to last five to 10 years.”
