Mawson Lakes touts ‘second CBD’
Northern Adelaide’s Mawson Central Business District at Mawson Lakes will be home to more than 100 businesses by mid-2009 with the release of 19,000m2 of commercial space in the state’s “second CBD” planned for the next 12 months. Mawson Lakes Project Director Chris Menz says MCBD represents a unique strategic offering for businesses looking to relocate. The precinct which now hosts 83 businesses covering 22,760m2, was named Australia’s Best Masterplanned Development by the Urban Development Institute of Australia earlier this year. When fully developed about 7500 people will work there.
“By integrating business and commercial precincts
into the community, Mawson Lakes has fostered a lively urban hub providing residents, workers and students with easy access to key businesses and services and opportunities for employment,” Chris says.
“MCBD is already established as a vibrant retail, commercial and recreation hub for the region with tenants such as Woolworths, banking and financial planners, a medical centre, childcare, recruitment agencies, and a range of other services.
“All types of businesses are setting up at MCBD. From small scale retail, such as food outlets, homewares, fashion, to service providers such as banks, financial planners, recruitment firms, medical services.
