Sentek to set soil moisture standard
The world’s attention is on water: how to get it and how to manage it. Drought, climate change and salinity have invariably increased awareness and pressure to use water efficiently. SA-based Sentek Sensor Technologies is a world leader in soil moisture monitoring technology with a global presence in more than 35 countries.
Sentek’s capacitance technology offers growers and industries systems that increase water and fertiliser efficiency. Growers dealing with water rationing on a regular basis formed Sentek’s client base when the firm was established in the Riverland in 1991.
“It was clear to the founders of Sentek that efficient use of water would become one of the most important factors to irrigators,” says Regional Senior Manager Australia and New Zealand, Paul Andrews.
“We identified that an accurate way to measure and monitor water
application and use was needed.”
Sentek’s products measure soil moisture, salinity and fertiliser and are used
extensively in agriculture, viticulture, horticulture, waste water
management, research, mining and environmental industries. In all,
Sentek has commercialised 20 new products, including seven complete
