A disgustingly optimistic view

I can hear Michael Stipe from REM belting out, “It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.” How about it folks? Is it the end? Just how do you feel about this global meltdown, caused by the very rich and stupid?
What’s interesting about writing this is the fact that it will appear in about four weeks after I have knocked out the words.
Perhaps when this reaches you, the Chinese have successfully devalued the Aussie dollar to the point where BHP has to pay them to ship off raw material.
The fact is, we have little idea what’s going to happen. Economists were created to make meteorologists look good. While there is a heap of pain out there and more to come, the navel-gazing has to stop at some point. The best way to predict the future is to create it.
At this juncture of history there is a changing of the guard, which for those who position themselves smartly can mean good things.
