Cappo Bros here to stay
The future of Cappo Bros Seafood rests on doing what it’s always done best: meeting the needs of the customer, according to GM, Damian Cappo.
Damian, 28, says developing customer loyalty has always been the focus of the fresh and frozen seafood processor and retailer.
Damian, his brother and two sisters are the third Cappo generation to steer the SA family company, which was founded in 1919 at Port Pirie as a partnership of six Italian migrant brothers. The business shifted to Grote Street in 1920. As the founders retired the second generation of Cappos incorporated the business in 1969.
The 70’s saw a decisive move to expand distribution in the food service sector, assisted by relocation to the current site on Glen Osmond Road, Parkside. Damian says it has been tempting to capitalise on the property’s value, but there are no plans to move.
“We don’t think our customers would like us to move. It’s a prime location for distribution and retailing. Glen Osmond Road is an arterial road; we are accessible to customers and markets,” he says, noting the decision to develop the site and open a Gourmet Store has paid off.
“The Store was born from an increasing customer base and a desire to provide quality seafood along with all the trimmings,” he says.
“Retail trade at the Central Market is a very successful side to our business. We are fortunate to have a loyal customer base – many second or even third generation shoppers....
