Playford fans Ember to light
Green technology is a fertile source of business opportunity. Adelaide-based seed investor, Playford Capital has funded local startup Ember Technologies to develop a globally applicable technology that can selectively turn off idle electrical devices, in the home and in businesses, which are in idle or standby mode.
Appliances on standby power draw about 10% of the power used in Australian homes.
Playford Capital and Victorian investor Cleantech Ventures made a joint $750,000 investment to finalise EMber’s product designs and deliver its power-saving
breakthrough to market.
The Ember Powerboard device can handle all standard audio-visual systems and computer applications in home and office environments. It requires no change in consumer behaviour and can save homeowners as much as $120 a year per application, extend appliance life, reduce fire risk and cut carbon emissions.
