GPS tells SMEs where they stand
Kevin Conder’s observations of SME operations during a 30-year accounting career have taught him the way to profit.
Kevin has worked in management, accounting bookkeeping, sales and marketing across the transport,tourism and housing industries. In 2004 he and wife Kathryn founded Greater Profit Services to provide financial reporting systems and mentoring services to SMEs.
He says computerised bookkeeping and accounting have created an ‘information gap’ which actually cuts profit.
“We believe the gap has been partly caused by the change from a knowledgeable bookkeeper to a person with more limited bookkeeping but perhaps good keyboard skills and/or computer data entry skills,” Kevin says.
“The chart of accounts is not always set up properly, leading to poor data quality, so viewing the data from different angles can be impossible.
