Coiltek strikes gold in electronics
Coiltek was in operation for more than 16 years before then-manager Trevor Ferraresso bought the company, renamed it Coiltek Manufacturing, and began a growth spurt in July 2007.
“We provide products and services to the metaldetecting
Hobby industry,” Trevor says. “We manufacture aftermarket coils and accessories which suit Minelab Electronics metal detectors. “We export to the Americas, Europe, UK, Russia and Asia with the Coiltek manufacturing name being known as a product of choice to enhance the performance of an already excellent machine.”
Metal detecting is steadily growing sector, as a potentially lucrative outdoor leisure activity. Trevor says Coiltek’s main demographic is 55 to 80-year-old people who have leisure time. “We also provide a service to the electronics industry by winding and manufacturing electronic components and performing sub assembly work,” he says.
“We have also just started to do contract work indirectly to mining companies and the like as this area is certainly a growing market for our electronics division.
“We are emphasizing the metal detection industry as this is our core business and believe it will be increasingly popular as the gold price becomes more favourable.”
Trevor is bullish about electronics manufacturing prospects in SA, as long as innovation continues.
“Without our manufacturing department continuing to improve output and efficiencies our regular orders could reduce,” he says.
“The electronics industry is continuing to grow and prosper as more technology becomes available. We intend to continually improve our ability to provide services to this industry.
“I can see a positive growth for us in this area as we become more proficient in providing this service.”
