Beauchamp’s good fit
Beauchamp’s Shoe store was founded by John Beauchamp’s parents in September 1956, to meet demand for footwear in Murray Bridge.
Before that time, two generations of Beauchamps operated a dining room and cafeteria next to the shoe store since the 1930s.
“I commenced working with my parents in 1974 and they retired from the business in the mid-90s,” John recalls.
“We market our business through the Murray Valley Standard and radio 5MU and Power FM, both local stations.”
Beachamp’s has sponsored sporting clubs, schools and many community organisations for many years.
“We have positioned ourselves at the better end of footwear, catering for men, women and children,” John says.
“Being a country shoe store we stock work boots, safety footwear, rubber boots, as well as everyday footwear for all the family from slippers to fashion shoes. We also stock a large range of handbags, purses and wallets.”
“Having been doing it for so long you get a real feel for your customers’ needs, but you must constantly listen to them and make the necessary changes to keep on track with current trends and fashions,” he says.
John spends most of his time on the shopfloor selling, so he’s personally aware of customers’ needs.
