FutureNet develops
SA young professionals working with the built environment are realising the benefits of networking through FutureNet, an initiative of the Association of Consulting Engineers Australia.
FutureNet provides opportunities for members to develop business skills and professional contacts considered essential in today’s market place to equip them to be future leaders.
FutureNet formed nationally in 2005 and the SA committee was established in 2006. FutureNet SA currently comprises of 18 young professionals from a range of organisations with offices in Adelaide. Engineers as well as architects, construction professionals, lawyers, accountants and property developers are encouraged to attend the organisation’s educational, motivational and networking events.
Essentially it’s an organisation run by young professionals, for young professionals.
“I joined to gain an insight into how an organisation such as this operates and diversify my professional skills,” says Avante Mapping Solutions Director, Dave Gerner, who is now FutureNet SA’s VP.
“As an active committee member I now have experience in management and marketing of events. I have also gained confidence in public speaking.
“I also benefit from the advice and information offered by a range of speakers and presentations at FutureNet events, particularly in financial management project delivery and leadership development.”
As a small business owner, Dave says it’s essential to develop a professional network with core and peripheral industries.
“FutureNet has allowed me to develop professional and personal relationships; 90% of my business is won through these business associations,” he says.
“Continual networking sessions have given me and my business a forum to promote ourselves to relevant industries and prospective clients.”
