Foundation research benefits diggers
Foundation Daw Park held its inaugural South Australian Defence and Veterans Health Research Paper Day in July, to showcase the latest research into veterans’ health issues.
SA Governor and Foundation Daw Park Patron, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR, opened proceedings at Repatriation General Hospital on the day.
Leading SA medical researchers presented their projects with the Best Scientific Paper and the Best Defence and Veteran Health Paper, as determined by a scientific committee, winning $1000. The awards are sponsored by Veterans SA.
Endocrinologist Dr Morton Burt presented diabetes screening research to win the Best Scientific Paper. Research presented by Dr Dan Billing from the Defence Science and Technology Organisation was awarded the Best Defence and Veteran Health Paper.
Dr Burt’s research focused on the reliability of diabetes screening tests for people receiving long-term glucocorticoid (steroid) therapy. Dr Billing’s ...
