UK migrant gains sound success
Migrating from the UK to SA has worked out for Daniel Bell, who came to Adelaide with his wife and three children four years ago, seeking the sun, sea and lifestyle that comes with living here.
Daniel began his career in the UK as an apprentice electrician at an audio visual production company. He became service and installation manager, buying stock, managing projects and the technical team in a formative family business experience.
“My intentions after leaving the UK were to start my own business and after a year working here I decided it was time,” says Daniel.
“Starting out in business is hard whether you come from overseas or you have lived in the same place your whole life. It has taken a good couple of years (to create) great relationships with clients and suppliers.”
Daniel worked weekends to earn enough money to buy his own equipment.
During this time another audio visual company asked if he would be interested in subcontracting work.
“I had already made some great contacts,” says Daniel. “To be offered a casual position took away a lot of the worries from moving halfway around the world. I discussed with them my plans to start a business of my own; they came back with a counter-offer. This really cemented my plans and I put all of my energy into the setting up of Premier Audio Visual & Electrical.
