Another Aussie makes good in Hollywood
Matthew Guy is “our man in Hollywood”, set for a blistering ride—not in the entertainment industry but in tourism. As the sales and marketing coordinator for the South Australian Tourism Commission in Irvine, California, Matthew is one of many students completing the Bachelor of Business (Tourism Management) degree online from the Centre for Tourism and International Languages at the Adelaide Institute of TAFE.
With interests strongly focused on nature and the great outdoors, Matthew originally took up studies in outdoor recreation and natural history through Regency TAFE and the Salisbury University Campus. This was followed with a lengthy stint (summers of 1993 to 2000) on Kangaroo Island as a naturalist guide for 4WD company Adventure Charters of KI. Here, he first cut his teeth in tourism operations and guiding.
In the winters of 1996 and 1997, he was lured to the Victorian snowfields by his love for skiing. During the day he worked as a lift operator and by night he enterprisingly used his talents as a guitar player and sang to earn a little extra cash.
Matthew has travelled to central Europe a number of times, spending most of his time in Germany on his first trip in 1990 and visiting seven countries in 1998 during a four-and-a-half month backpacking adventure.
