Avenue Q: a new Brookman coup

A new breed of musical comedy is set to open in Adelaide in 2010 with the adults-only puppet show, Avenue Q.
Brought to Australia by Adelaide-based touring company Arts Asia Pacific, the Broadway and West End hit musical has played successful seasons in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and currently in Perth.
Husband-and-wife team Torben and Richelle Brookman founded AAP in 2005 by to bring first-class productions to the Asia Pacific region.
Before establishing the company, both had much experience in the arts, music, dance and entertainment industry in Australia and Asia and used their ‘time off’ between productions to set up the company.
Torben and Richelle grew up in entertainment. Torben’s father Rob, now GM of the Sydney Theatre Company, created WOMAdelaide.
Before establishing AAP Torben was the Associate Producer on the world tour of Cats. Richelle is an accomplished dancer instrumental in setting up Latin Dance Australia.
AAP employs five full-time staff in offices in Adelaide, Melbourne, Korea, the UK and South Africa. Their task is to find suitable production partners and destinations for shows from large scale musicals to drama and dance productions. The Australian tour of Avenue Q, a joint venture with Power Arts, will turn over more than $12 million in its touring season.
